CPEC - A Survey of Opportunities

Office of Industry Linkages under the aegis of Dean SBE, organized a seminar on “CPEC - A Survey of Opportunities" for UMT faculty and students on May 12, 2016. Diverse speakers from industry, academia and government sectors spoke on the importance of China Pakistan Economics Corridor. Director General/CEO Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad, Mr. Masood Khan, provided the insight of strategic importance of CPEC in regional scenarios and emphasized on responding to opportunities vigilantly that CPEC might bring with it. He mentioned that CPEC is the huge project for Pakistan which should be welcomed positively by all.

Mr. Rehmat Ullah Javed, Chairman Grand Group Pakistan, spoke about the local industry challenges and discussed the ways of getting maximum benefit of CPEC with proper support from the Government. He also emphasized to establish industrial zones on priority basis at their strategic locations to empower underdeveloped areas. He mentioned that route prioritization & economic zones development must be on the basis of population density, and productive land under the route. Mr. Rehmat Ullah said that cultural aspects should be focused by both countries and both should try to overcome the differences at its possible extent.

Dr. Safdar A. Sohail Executive Director, Center of Excellence, CPEC presented the ministry of planning commission strategic plan for implementing CPEC project. He provided current progress on CPEC project. Dr. Safdar spoke about the opportunities that might appear and also encouraged students to identify areas for new business ventures.

Dr. Haroon Rasheed, Director Pak-China MBA program gave concluding remarks and accentuated students to read more literature on CPEC. He thanked all guests warmly for becoming part of CPEC seminar at UMT. At the end, all the guest speakers were presented with souvenirs by DG UMT, Mr. Abid H K Shirwani.
