6th Deans and Directors Conference 2019

The 6th Deans and Directors Conference was held on 8th and 9th of April, 2019 at Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore. The conference was organized by National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC) which was established by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in 2007. The conference was chaired by Dr. Farrukh Iqbal (Chairman NBEAC).

Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Advisor to PM for Institutional Reforms and Austerity graced the conference with his presence as chief guest.

The procession of the conference was sequenced as having plenary sessions, workshops, seminars and policy roundtables divided on two days.

The conference opened with the inaugural session by the conference convener Dr. Syed Kumail Abbas Rizvi, Professor of Finance, LSE. The session’s panel was chaired by Dr. Farrukh Iqbal, Chairman NBEAC, Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Advisor to PM for Institutional Reforms and Austerity, Dr. Sadia Nadeem, Dean FAST_NU, Islamabad and Dr. Daniel. R. LeClair, Chief Executive officer, Global Business School Networks (GBSN), USA

Dr. Farrukh Iqbal paid a tribute to Late Dr. Hassan Sohaib Murad (former chairman NBEAC) before the procession of the inaugural session and talked about the importance of business education in today’s time. The session’s discussion revolved around the topic ‘The Evolving Landscape of Business Education across the Globe’. Dr. Ishrat Hussain spoke about the policy dilemmas and value chains, stressing on ‘anti-lobbying’ reforms.

The first session was convened by Dr. Naveda Kitchlew, Dean, School of Business and Economics,UMT on the topic “Advancing Regional Collaboration”. The session’s panel was chaired by Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Advisor to PM for Institutional Reforms and Austerity, Dr. Daniel. R. LeClair, Chief Executive officer, School Networks (GBSN), USA, Dr. Obiyathullah Ismath Bacha, Professor INCEIF, Malaysia and Dr. Shahid Amjad Ch, Rector, Lahore School of Economics. Dr. Ishrat Hussain emphasized that regional collaboration should be designed in such a way that it is mutually beneficial, purposeful and politically.

One of the four panel discussions during the first day of the conference shed light on the topic “CPEC since the 5th DDC” with guest speakers such as by Dr. Jawad Syed, Dean, Suleman Dawood School of Business, LUMS, Dr. Farrukh Iqbal, Director, IBA, Karachi, Ambassador(R) Syed Hasan Javed, Director, Chinese Studies Centre, S3H, NUST, Islamabad, Dr. Mubashir Khan, Principal, Hailey College of Banking and Finance, and Dr. Aneel Sulman, HOD, COMSATS, Islamabad. Other plenary sessions addressed topics such as “Fostering Business Schools-Industry Partnerships” which focused primarily on bridging the gaps between industry and academia.

The second day of conference opened with the first session by the conference convener Dr Farrukh Iqbal, Director, IBA, Karachi on the topic “Disruptive Technologies and Pedagogical Innovations”. The session’s panel was chaired by Dr. Daniel. R. LeClair, Chief Executive officer, Global Business School Networks(GBSN), USA, Dr. Farrah Arif, Founder & CEO – EdTech Worx,  Dr. Christophe Terasse, Director, International Projects, EFMD, Brussels, Dr. Naveed A. Malik, Rector, Virtual University, Lahore. The session’s discussion revolved around the importance of technology on today’s world of education for innovative learning techniques. The second session was convened by Dr. Asfia Obaid, HOD, NUST Business School, Islamabad on the topic “Civic responsibilities of business schools and their graduates”. The session panel was chaired by Dr. Zaffar A Khan, Chairman Board of Directors PCP, Dr. Alnoor Bhimani, Dean, SDSB, LUMS, and Dr. Idrees Khawaja, Dean, Air University, Islamabad. The session discussion revolved around ways to inculcate CSR activities among business graduates that are important for the benefit of society.

The closing session procession included a Tribute to peer reviewers by Sania Tufail and a conference report by Dr. Kumail. Followed by a vote of thanks by the Chairman NBEAC, Dr. Farrukh Iqbal.
